I am sitting here in front of a very warm fireplace with the woman that I have loved for almost 39 years. We have been going over some geneological information on the family. As I was looking for some information on my mom to put into the LDS family search site I marveled at the amount of information that I have about my family. It is interesting to see how much work my ancestors went through to make sure we knew who they were. I have some very interesting and heart warming stories about my ancestors. It has made me pretty sheepish. Every year I determine to begin a personal history or at least keep a jounal. I have yet to do it consistently. When I think that I don't have a history of my own parents I am sorry that I don't know enough about them to share an accurate story of my parents life. I know a lot, but I don't know a lot of facts that tie everything together. I am thinking I need to talk to what is left of my parents siblings to get some of that information. Sadly some of it is lost forever. Now as I think of my own life I sadly don't have a real accurate rememberance of some of the specifics of my own life. Mom is a great source because she has been diligent in keeping a journal of her life. It's good know she can refer to that when we need some of the specific information we need.
I guess what I am saying today is that we need to keep records not only for ourselves, but for our children and grandchildren. They will have a great interest in who we are, what we did, and why we are who we are. I am making a committment to do better. I don't know how I am going to do it but I am going to try.
Hey Dad, your keeping a blog, thats a good start!!!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been the best journal keeper, but last night I was looking up something for dad, and I have to admit, it was kind of fun to read some of those old journal entries!
ReplyDeleteI dont keep a good journal either. Hopefully mom puts things about my family in her journal too!
ReplyDeleteI just collected my 8 FULL journals from my Mom's house that covered Jr High - High school - up to getting married. I'm ashamed to say I only have one small journal for the last 9 years. I need to do better. Thanks for the reminder!
